The 30-second read
• What changed: Caution has eased since last issue but still covers 106 of 395 stocks.
• One stock to watch: $KDP, breaks out just under its yearly high.
• What to think about: Whether the Oct 21 earnings cluster, with $TSLA, $META and $IBM, steadies or shakes the market's big names.
Market Health Check
The risk this week is concentration: more than a quarter of the list sits in Caution while only a few sectors carry the market.
Healthy credit and a normal yield curve say financing is not the problem. They do not say stocks are participating: just 48% of US stocks sit above their 50-day average, so a clean breakout is the exception.
Triage Board Weekly
Sector pulse: Leadership is narrow. Only three of 11 sectors still beat the S&P.
Energy and Technology are ahead of the market and gaining momentum, and neither shows a trend warning. Health Care is also ahead, but its momentum is fading near a yearly high, with an early exhaustion signal.
The other eight trail the S&P. Five of those show a broken trend, so a stall among the leaders leaves little cover.
Just above its yearly low after an 11% drop; Duquesne added, Bridgewater trimmed.
Third Point and Tiger Global added by June; down 11% in one session.
KFC U.S. is moving its beverage supply from Pepsi to Coca-Cola from January 2027.
Bullish reversal pattern; lags the S&P but holds up against the equal-weight index.
Four top insiders sold as the stock breaks down, ahead of earnings on Oct 21.
Sold off sharply to near its yearly low; below its trend line for three weeks.

Keurig Dr Pepper ($KDP) — Cleared · Moderate signal
KDP is in an uptrend and sits 0.3% below its 52-week high. It broke out of its recent range on 1.7 times its 20-day average volume, so the move had real participation behind it. Its relative strength (how it performs against the index) is at a three-month high, even with the consumer staples sector lagging.
Position Trader Playbook
The check is the gap between price and its 50-day average, in daily ranges. KDP sits about 3.7 ranges above, so a stop at that average sits far below and a fixed dollar risk covers fewer shares. A pullback shrinks the gap and lets the same risk cover more.
Latest News
KDP has completed its takeover of Dutch coffee company JDE Peet's and holds the large majority of it. Remaining holders had until Oct 16 to hand over their shares. Those not transferred now face a forced buyout at a court-set price.
On Oct 1, KDP named Kimberly-Clark executive Russ Torres to lead its coffee unit from Nov 3, ahead of a planned early-2027 split.
Institutional Context
13F filings (big funds' quarterly holdings) show Citadel and Point72 added in Q2, two of 21 tracked funds, with none selling.
Wall Street's stated view leans positive. HSBC upgraded the stock from Hold to its top rating with a $40 target on Aug 13. Estimates have not moved up since: over 30 days none were raised and one was cut, among 15 covering.
Macro Alignment
• Credit spreads (a measure of how much investors fear corporate defaults) show no stress, a supportive backdrop for stocks.
• The VIX (the market's fear gauge) near 20 shows no short-term fear spike.
Technical Picture
• Its relative strength holds whether the index is weighted by company size or equally.
• Volume on down days runs below average, so selling into the climb has been light.
• The 50-, 150- and 200-day averages stack shortest on top, with the 200-day rising.
What to Watch
• Thesis intact while: price holds above $33.37, the level the breakout cleared.
• Setup invalidated if: a daily close lands below $31.54, the 50-day average.
• Next data point: Earnings expected Nov 3, a provider estimate not yet confirmed by the company.
